General information

Wengen is located on a natural, sunny terrace, protected from the wind and is scattered way beyond the alpine terrace ascending to the east, around five hundred metres over the Lauterbrunnen Vallex. It nestles in the heart of Switzerland and at the foot of the snow-covered triumvirate of 4,000 m peaks, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Even the most creative of painters could not have imagined such an impressive backdrop. The ice-covered peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Breathtaking and unique the world over.

You can’t reach Wengen directly by car. You have to park your vehicle in Lauterbrunnen and take the train operated by the Wengener Alp Bahn (WAB) to Wengen. The journey takes about 15 minutes.

Wengen is also easy to reach in approx. 40 minutes from Interlaken via Lauterbrunnen by taking the Jungfraubahn railway.

Wengen in the winter

Wengen is one of the centres for alpine skiing and hub of ski racing as a sport.

In this picturesque setting at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the skiing elite meets for the international Lauberhorn ski race each January.

Wengen has a wide range of sporting activities and a variety of exciting and varied descents for all abilities and skiers of any age, from beginners to the champions.

Wengen is a great place to relax and recuperate.

And has a wide range of things on offer to help you do so. Seventy kilometres of well looked-after alpine hiking routes around Wengen, guided hikes (on request), long toboggan runs – for example from Wengener Alp via Allmend to Wengen (4,500 m), or from Männlichen to Holenstein on Rita's Speedway (5,000 m).

A natural and an artificial ice rink, as well as 11 rinks for curlers (3 of which are covered) are also available.

We enjoy especially long periods of sunshine in winter, which is ideal for a relaxing and unforgettable winter break.

Wengen in summer

In summer, Wengen also has a lot  to offer, with a variety of exceptional hiking routes that are marked for hikers of all levels.

Hiking paths around Wengen and the Jungfrau region are well kept and very well marked. The Jungfrau region alone has up to 500 km of versatile hiking paths.

Numerous alpine railways will take you to the start of wonderful hikes and to extraordinary viewing points.

At the heart of Switzerland, Wengen is the starting point for unforgettable trips, such as for example to the Männlichen, to the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station (3,454 m), or to the Schilthorn with Piz Gloria (2,970 m), the highest revolving restaurant on a summit in the Alps.

The village and neighbourhood can offer a lot more sporting facilities. These include tennis courts, a mini golf course and a heated outdoor pool, to name but a few.

In the spring, feast your eyes on the alpine meadows with their abundance of colouful flora.

In the autumn, the forests transform into a beautiful mix of red, yellow and brown hues.
